Verses of the Day Archives

The verses of the day are a compilation of verses to help you with your daily walk with God.  Use them to encouarge you and help you keep your relationship with Him growing.  God gives us these verses to use as daily reminders of his standards and guidelines for living.  May He bless you richly everyday.

Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  They keep watch over you as men who must give an account.  Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.  Hebrews:13-17
"If anyone adds anything to them. God will add to him the plagues described in this book.  And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life, and in the holy city, which are described in this book."  Revelations 22: 18-19
This is one of the last commands in the Bible in which God gives specific instructions.  Throughout the Bible when Christ speaks and gives commands he has in the past and will in the present be specific.  The old saying "what part of NO don't you understand?"  applies here.  In this politically correct society we try to accommodate everything, every idea, and everyone, but God doesn't see it that way.  He has specific Guidelines and laws he has outlined in the Bible, which as you have read in the above verse says not to change or take away anything from it.  If it says NO, don't do it! What part of NO don't you understand?
We need to stop rationalizing every single sin that is committed and start turning away from our behavior.  Obedience brings blessings not doing things our way.  It is time to take a stand and do what is required and expected without changing anything about truth.
"Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare."  Proverbs 20:13
The ant is one of the smallest creatures on earth, yet it is one of the hardest working.  Try and destroy an ant hill and before you know it they have moved a couple of feet down and already set up house.  What makes this insect so determined seems to be the drive to get things done without wasting time.
The Bible encouarges us to work hard and be diligent in our work.  Work unto the Lord and not for man.  Work to please God and you will find yourself with the same determination to get the job done as the ant.  God promises if you work hard you will feel blessed at the end of the day and have all you need.
"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."  Hebrews 13:5
What is it about today's society that no one seems content with what they have.  The American society is the hardest working society in the world.  They put in more work hours and have less vacations than any other free society.  It seems that the more people have the less happy they are and the more they want.
This generation may even be more stressed than the generation that experienced the depression in the 30's - 40's.  What is going on today that everyone feels they need to keep up with the Jones'?  A simple answer may be in this verse where people love money and misinterpret what money is for.  They aren't content with what they have.  The minute they buy something the meaning and value go away.
If we were to focus more on God and what he has for us we would not be so consumed with our time getting what he doesn't want for us.  We must trust that God has our best interest in mind.  Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you.  Plans to prosper you and to give you hope and a future."
Slow down, trust God and let his plan come into play for you.  It will lead you to contentment and a step out of the "rat race".  There is a saying that has a lot of power in it.  A rich man is the person who can do without and still be happy.
"I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him.  But you know him, for he lives with you and will be with you".  John 14:16-17
There are many Christians who have accepted Jesus Christ and have received the Holy Spirit, but still have doubts and questions because they haven't been able to see tangible evidence.  There are also many unbelievers who have heard over and over about Christ and the Holy Spirit and yet refuse to accept him because they too have not seen with their own eyes.
Know that Christ and the Holy Spirit are real.  When Christ rose again he returned to Heaven and promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort us.  The key to believing and knowing without doubt that they exist is faith.  We must trust that what God's word says is truth and has final authority over anything else.
Think for a minute about how millions of televisions and cell phones receive signals in order to operate.  We can't see the signal or the satellite, yet we trust that it will work.  This is called faith in something without question.  We don't look around to see where it is coming from, instead we just let the satellite do its work.  A better way to break it down is by using this analogy with the satellite and comparing it with God's omnipresence.  The satellite system is God, the signal is Christ and whatever is operating at the time is the Holy Spirit.  Even though you can't see God, he exist and can be everywhere all the time just like a satellite, its signal and power.
"A quick-tempered man does foolish things"  Proverbs 14:17
A small amount of writing but yet a tremndous amount of wisdom.  How many times have we let our tempers get the best of us without even thinking?  One of the most important reasons we should think before we react is because of how foolish we look after a display of anger.  Other people care less about our little pity party and are more interested in their own feelings and integrity first.  If we want people to know our feelings or if we are upset about soemthing, we must first be rational and be sure to not do or say something we'll regret.
Notice the first four words: a quick-tempered man or woman.  It is okay to be upset, but not okay in God's eyes to rush into to hurt someone else with our anger and sin.  The Bilbe says "Anger but sin not"  Simply put, own your anger, it is yours, but don't be foolish and hurt someone back.  Stop, think and act first.   A good piece of Chinese wisdom to remember: "Slow is fast and fast is slow".  We accomplish more by not being quick-tempered.
Yesterday's Verse
"Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hands of the wicked".  Psalm 97:10
Don't be afraid of what you see going on in the world today.  God is in control and although it seems as if he is not paying attention, he is.  God owns the earth and is aware of everything happening.  Know that he loves those who love Him and will protect them.  Evil will exist for a short time, but peace will reign forever.
Last week's Verses of the day
"Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you so, that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody".
Thessalonians 4:11-12
"A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret".  Proverbs 11:13
Today, watch what you say and pay attenntion to your conversations.  You may be surprised at what you need to not say.  Say something kind to someone today.
"Remember this!  In the last days there will be many troubles, because people will love themselves, love money, brag and be proud.  They will say evil things against each others and will not obey their parents or be thankful or be the kind of people God wants.  They will not love others, will refuse to forgive, will gossip, and will not control themselves.  They will be cruel, will hate what is good, will turn against their friends, and will do foolish things without thinking.  They will be conceited, will love pleasure instead of God, and will act as if they serve God but will not have his power.  Stay away from those people".
2 Timothy 3:1-5
For those of you who saw the Passion of the Christ you were able to witness the awesome love Christ had and still has for us.  We watched in agony as he continued on his journey to death on the cross for our sake.  This was not a temporary act of love but one that changed the course of human history.  No one will ever do what Chrsit did for us, ever.
The next time you have doubts, fear, pain, agony, or any suffering, remember; Christ already went through it and knows our needs.  Give him your cares and worries.  He did not do this so that it could be forgotten.  He did this so that whenever we fall and don't have anywhere to turn he will take our place and carry us through.  He loves you so much he died for you.  Never be alone, afraid, or in doubt again because Christ lives.  Remember, His passion was to give us eternal life and freedon from sin.
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" 1 John 4:10
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love and sound mind"  II Timothy 1:7
As Christians we are called to be meek and humble, but that does not mean we are to give an impression that we are weak minded without convictions.  There is strength in being meek and humble, but more importantly there is power when we are tuned into the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit gives us the capability to deal with any situation the world has to offer because Christ has overcome the world.  We are able to tap into that super natural power with a simple request.
God has called us to be born again to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. 1 Peter 3-4
"A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones"
Proverbs 14:30
In the world we live in with so much focus on consumption, working long hours, and business, can you say you are really at peace?  Is their stife in your family?  Do you hold resentments, or is there something that just stands in the way of giving you God's peace.  God says he will restore in us a peace that passes all understanding, but first we have to surrender our own agenda.  The peace God gives us the world cannot understand because it asks us to give up something in order to acquire it.  That something we must give up is following our own will.  Instead we need to follow God's will.  How will you know when you are in God's will?  You will have a peace that passes all understanding.
"Where your treausre is, there will your heart be also"  Matthew 6:21
What is it that you value on this earth?  Is your goal to make lots of money?  Are you after prestige, power, to keep up with the Jones family, or to out do the next guy?   It is important to check our desires and motives and be careful to not have possesions that have no meaning eternally and place us in a precarious situation.  If we are busy consuming, working, and accumulating we miss the whole point about life.  We are here to serve, which is where are treasures and our hearts should be vested in.
"There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches"  Proverbs 13:7
Prayer For Today
Lord take from the things I have to give for others.  All I have is yours, heavenly God.  Make me an agent of your giving and love.  Let me spread the joy of your light to everyone I meet.  Amen
Jesus said "What is impossible with men is possible with God"  Luke 18-27
What are you going through right now in your life?  Are you facing difficult times?  Are people letting you down and you have no answers for your problems?  Know that Christ cares for you and knows the desires of your heart.  Christ says that he cares for the sparrow and meets his needs everyday, and so you who are much more to Christ can rest assure he will meet your needs above that of a bird.  Put all your trust in Christ.  If people have let you down in this world, give him a chance to prove himself.  You will not be let down.
"Above all my brothers do not swear - not by heaven or by earth or by anything else.  Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No" be no, or you will be condemned"  James 5:12
                                                  God Loves You
What is your relationship like with God?  Do you speak to him daily? Does he know your daily thoughts, feelings, fears, worries, and pain?  Most people are not aware that God created us so that we could have fellowship with him.  He desires to have a relationship with us, but like any relationship, it must be nurtured, and given time to daily or it will take second priority and fade.
God loves us and knows every single thing about us.  He knows our needs and wants to give us the desires of our hearts.  Before he bestows those blessings he wants us to trust his son Jesus Christ.  He sent Jesus to die for us and pay the price for all our sins.  Jesus is the life line to God.  The Bible says that no one can come to the Father unless they confess that Jesus is Lord.  Through Jesus Christ we are saved forever.
Jesus Christ works as an intercessor for us.  Through our relationship with Christ we can have direct communication with God.  Jesus is seated with God in Heaven and will continue to perform miracles just as he did when he was here on earth as man.  If you haven't yet started your relationship with him begin today and ask him into your heart.  If you have put it aside renew it with him now.  If you have a daily relationship with Christ, continue it and you will see the miracles God will do for you.  Nothing is impossible will Christ.
No matter what your life was before, no matter what has taken place before, no matter what you've done, confess your sins, ask God to forgive those who may have caused you to sin; and you will have a new life in Christ.  The love God has for us is unconditional and no questions will be asked.  The Bible says when we confess our sins they are forgotten as far to the east as to the west.  In other words, they are gone.  First we must confess our sins, turn away from that sin and then begin a new start on a clean slate.  That is how much God loves us.  Show him your thanks by loving him today.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phillipians 4:13
There is nothing you can't do with Christ by your side.  No matter what it is you aspire to take on in life, Christ will give you the strength.  When you put your mind to something and ask Christ to give you the strength, not only will He be by your side every step of the way, He will also give you His supernatural strength.
"Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear"  1 Peter 3:15
Are you ready to give back an answer when people ask why you have so much joy and hope?  Will you say it is because of money, man , your job or material possessions?  This can be an opportune time to witness because you are being asked.  It is a time to share what Christ has done for you and the hope you have putting your faith in Christ.
Remembering the reason for the Easter season:
God loves you and wants you to have a relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.  As we approach the Easter season remember that it is not about the Bunny rabbit, egg hunts, nice clothes or candy.  Easter is about God's Son, Jesus Christ.  He is the Savior of the world and died on the cross for you and me.
He shed His blood for our sins and died on the cross so that we could have life.  He paid the ultimate price for our sins and now is risen.  Easter is a time to reflect on your eternity and where you will live once you die.  Will it be with Jesus?  Confess your sins now and accept Him as your savior and you will see the miracles He will perform in your life.
"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and go in and out and find pasture."  John 10: 9
